How does non-surgical spinal decompression work?

Patient pre- and post-treatment Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

To relieve pressure on your spinal discs and promote healing, our completely computerised, non-surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy unit gently stretches the affected segment of your spine:

  1. The stretching-induced negative pressure enables the retraction of the disc bulge and the influx of healing nutrients.
  2. Non-surgical Spinal Decompression reduces pressure on the injured nerves and gently separates the vertebrae, which helps to quickly improve mobility and decrease pain.
  3. By boosting the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the damaged area, Non-surgical Spinal Decompression not only relieves traumatic compression on the spinal discs and nerves but also enhances the overall health of the spine. This hastens the healing process in addition to preventing further injuries.
  4. Our unit has gravity-assisted positioning for VERY acute patients, as per the McKenzie method, which is essential in the acute stages of spinal disc injury.
  5. Our decompression unit allows for total directional preference positioning (e.g. side-bending and rotation of pull for one-sided back pain or sciatica) to target the treatment by isolating specific spinal discs, as opposed to traction, which often just “stretches” the entire spine.
  6. These options allow us to personalize the treatment for your age, weight and condition and to adjust your treatments as your results are continuously tracked.

Our non-surgical spinal decompression unit

Touchscreen display with independent programming for cervical and lumbar decompression
Pre-set programs for the most common pathologies

As a part of our spinal rehabilitation method, we utilise the latest technologically advanced spinal decompression treatment unit for the cervical and lumbar spine, featuring:

  1. Three-dimensional correction arrangement of laying surface using precise gas springs. Allows performing static, harmonic and intermittent traction.
  2. The touch screen and fully computerized panel greatly enhance the treatment process and the patient database allows quick access to information about the progress in therapy and used treatment parameters.
  3. Modern digital command centre and unique design allow for precise control over vertebral targeting, including axial rotation and lateral flexion; antalgic posture correction;
  4. Independent programming for cervical and lumbar decompression and continuous readout and graphing of treatment protocols. Patients can receive care from different angles and in either a supine or prone position
  5. This is NOT a spinal traction device. Regular traction stretches whole spine and muscles simultaneously. But if you only stretch the spine, your body naturally “braces” for the next stretch, limiting the effectiveness of the treatment. The “overall stretching” commonly used in traction can also trigger painful muscle spasms.
  6. Unlike traditional spinal traction, decompression therapy alternates between stretching and relaxation. The stages of relaxation maximise the load and efficacy of the treatment by persuading your body to remain relaxed.
  7. Our unit has built-in safety features and user-defined treatment hold and relaxation times

If you are suffering from neck, back, or leg pain resulting from the bulging or herniated intervertebral disc, if painkillers and physiotherapy fail to bring lasting relief, if you’ve had to stop work and all physical activities because of the pain, if your GP is referring you to see a neurosurgeon as your last option, consider giving us a call, as this may be your last chance to avoid the surgery.
